Thoughts on personal style

I often get asked the question, "How would you describe your personal style?"

shirt: american apparel
shorts: delia's
belt: forever 21
shoes: forever 21
socks: H&M

To be completely honest, I never know how to answer this question. The one rule that I have every time I get dressed is not to care what someone else might say or think. If the outfit makes me happy then that is all that matters. My only rule is to not have any rules limiting what I wear.

People often expect to hear that someone has an edgy style or a girly style or a bohemian style. I don't think that I fit into any one mold when it comes to this. Sure I have certain trends that I really like and there are certain combinations (like a button down shirt, with a high-waisted bottom and heels! YES please!) that I am particularly fond of, but I think that my style varies too much from day to day to fit into any one style or even a combination of styles!

What do you think of these style labels?

Rain rain go away

The rain seriously limits my shoe choices. I am extremely anti-rain boots. I do own them but I really try not to wear them unless the very thought of going outside makes my socks feel wet. They are just ugly and not very comfortable at all. If any of you can show me a pair of chic, sleek rain boots, please send those pictures my way. That being said, this is what I wore today even though it was raining.

sweater: pac sun
jeans: pac sun
boots: libby edelman via famous footwear

This shoe purchase was one of the highlights of my shopping career. These boots were priced at $80 but after all was said and done I got them for $10. At the same time that I bought these boots I bought another pair of boots originally priced and $150 for $36. Seriously the most amazing deal I have ever gotten. I have loved famous footwear ever since.

I am also seriously feeling the mullet hemline on this sweater. I bought this sweater when I went into pac sun looking for a pair of shorts. Of course I couldn't resist buying it!

I'm off to study for a linear algebra quiz...so college

Goodbye summer, goodbye tan

The worst blogger award goes to....
me... I am seriously the worst with these month long hiatuses! But I'm back!
blouse: ann taylor
shorts: delia's
belt: H&M
watch: BORA from a boutique in my town
wrap bracelet: my sister bought it! doesn't she have the nicest taste?
booties: wetseal

Aren't you all proud that I am not wearing a single piece from forever 21? It is shocking to me as well. I have spent months lusting over this style of ankle boots. Most of the ones that I was looking at were quite expensive and I am on the budget of a lowly college student *le sigh* I saw a pair in Nine West that were literally identical to these, but were more than double the price.

I am normally not a big Wetseal shopper because other times that I have gone into that store I have felt too old to be there if that makes sense. But, last time I was at the mall I happened upon these beauties and was in love. They also appear to be fairly well made so I don't have to live in fear of having to part with my lovelies before I am ready to.

In life news, I spent the last week of my summer vacation sick with a fever! Major bummer but it does explain at least part of my blogging absence. Now school has started and the warm, sunny weather is starting to fade. I kind of love fall fashion though so it isn't bad at all! Hope you all enjoy this post and I will try my best to keep up the outfit posts and such in between classes!

Que veux-tu?

shirt: target
shorts: forever 21
belt: forever 21
shoes: forever 21
sunglasses: pac sun

It was all rainy and sad outside today, so I decided to post these pictures from last week when it was all nice and gorgeous out. I went into target with the intention of buying socks and came out with this top, which is so incredibly typical of me.
In other news, I recently purchased a suit from Ann Taylor for job interviews and the fall career fair and such. For those of you who are small and have trouble finding business attire that fits you, Ann Taylor is your place. The suit fits great and they have an outstanding petite section. It was very difficult to not purchase one of everything... in every color. I will be featuring this suit very soon on here, so I am very excited about that.

A falling star fell from your heart and landed in my eyes

shirt: forever 21
shorts: delia's
shoes: forever 21
bag: H&M

So I think it should be fairly obvious by now that these are my favorite shoes! They are high which, as a short person, make me very happy! They are also very easy to walk in, in spite of being 4" high.
I am also very surprised that I have never included this bag in a post seeing as it travels with me everywhere I go! I literally carry my life in there. I feel like Mary Poppins at times!

Happy Friday!

Hide and Seek

shirt: forever 21
shorts: pac sun
belt: gap
shoes: forever 21

I rep f21 like it is my job! Oh my goodness! The blouse seems to be very well made however, which is pretty great.
I must tell you all that I have been looking for a button down shirt with cut out shoulders FOREVER! I was so happy when I saw this one. But, I did have to order it in a size too big. I was pretty happy when I got it though because I am able to tie the bottom in a knot, which I think is really really cute.
I was also being really lazy today and didn't feel like trying with my hair, thus the messy bun. In keeping with the lazy theme, I wanted to rock some tennis shoes because they are so darn comfy!

Have a wonderful day!

wild horses couldn't drag me away

Apologies for the inadvertent goofy smile in these photos!

I have recently discovered The Man Repeller (and by recently I mean yesterday). I know. Most of you that follow style blogs are going to be like, "OMG! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?" I, myself, am wondering the same thing.
I happened to stumble onto her blog yesterday and was immediately inspired to "repel" some men! So that is why I have chosen this outfit. Tony's reaction of "What the heck are you wearing?" strangely delighted me when he saw me this morning.

As far as what I did today in this ensemble, it was not very eventful. I went to work on campus and then went to the super market to get the makings for the tacos that we had for dinner (which were delicious).
I'm not sure if my relatively conservative campus community is quite ready for man repellant, but frankly I've decided to stop caring about that. That exact point is part of the reason why I started this blog in the first place!

That's all for now!

I know we are, we are the lucky ones

shirt: DIY
shorts: H&M
belt: H&M
shoes: forever 21
bracelet: juicy

Nothing brightens my day like wearing a new pair of shoes! Especially these adorable gold flecked wingtips from forever21. They were the perfect little eclectic piece to add to this funky outfit. I was also very excited to style my latest DIY creation. I am really going to miss wearing crop tops when it starts getting cold out!

Might I say its good to be back!

STOP! Hammer time!

All right, before you ask. YES. I got harem pants. I have been skeptical of this trend from the beginning, but I decided that I might as well try it. After seeing them in every fashion blog and in dozens of stores I became curious, so I purchased this pair from Forever 21. By the way, just as a warning, I took more pictures than normal for this one.
I thought that they looked really silly, so I rolled them up and felt better about them. I can't help feeling like I'm wearing pajamas though!

I also think that they make my butt look weird, but I am starting to get used to them.

Wow, repping f21 today! Didn't realize that until just now! Anyway, I still feel like I'm channeling MC Hammer a bit, but the harem pants are growing on me. That's all for now, talk to you soon!

happiness hit her like a train on a track

So if you're like me, you have more t-shirts than you could possibly have a need for. Most of them are worn to bed or to the gym, but there are those few that you know in your heart could be fabulous if worn correctly. I put this together this morning and I am very pleased with how this outfit turned out.
shirt: gift from my sister ( she sure is nice!)
skirt: pac sun
shoes: forever21

Printed on this t-shirt is Vesuvius by Andy Warhol. This particular t-shirt was actually purchased by my sister in Pompeii. However, there are many t-shirts out there with Warhol prints on them so if you want one similar to this, it shouldn't be too hard to find. Just as an FYI, even though you can't really see it in the pictures, my hair is in a messy fishtail side braid. Please do let me know if you have any success styling your own t-shirts!

love is all you need

shirt: Ann Taylor
shorts/belt: H&M
shoes: charlotte russe

This shirt was purchased while I was helping my mother pick out an outfit for my sister's college graduation. I saw it while my mom was trying things on and decided to see how it looked on me. I loved it and bought it. It was slightly more expensive then the things I normally buy (because I'm a cheapo, but I prefer the word frugal) but it was so nice it was worth it. The shorts were bought on my recent trip to H&M and I am just loving the high-waisted shorts look. I also like that they came with a really cute belt! I've had the shoes for a really long time because I think that everyone needs a pair of black flats to fall back on. They have a cool woven detail on the front so they are not totally plain.

Today, I had a meeting with the professor that I am doing research with. So basically, I wanted to look slightly more professional without being too dressed up. Also I couldn't be too daring or trendy because that would be inappropriate. Hope you all enjoyed this look!

Happy Thursday! (its almost Friday!!! Yay!)

Experiment: Can a pair of shoes transform an outfit?

I found myself in a bit of a shoe dilemma this morning when I got dressed. I put on a simple white dress, a denim shirt (as a light jacket), and then I couldn't decide: heels, sneakers, or sandals? I tried on all three and loved them all, but still felt very differently about the outfit with each pair of shoes. Let me know what you think, can shoes transform an outfit?

Pair of Shoes # 1 : High Heels

I think that these give the outfit a dressy, girly look. This is actually what I ended up wearing for most of the day because I liked the sophistication that the heels gave me. As a 20 year old that gets mistaken for being under 16 way too often, sophistication is important to me.

Pair of Shoes # 2 : Sneakers

I think that these shoes give the look a more playful look. Just as an FYI, these shoes are brand new, I just got them today. Also, it was really windy when I was taking these which is why my hair is consistently in my face.

Pair of Shoes # 3 : Sandals

Now I am an avid shoe collector, so I normally don't like to wear flip flops unless I'm going to the beach or pool because I feel that they are just too casual. However, sometimes if I'm just running around all day I like my shoes to be very comfortable. Also, I think that the flip flops with this outfit give it a beach-y, laid-back look.

the warmth in your eyes swept me into your arms

shirt: H&M
skirt: pac sun
shoes: charlotte russe

Today, Tony and I went to the gym and played basketball for 2 hours! Let me tell you it wore me out! I'm so beat right now, I'm off so bed right after this post gets published!
I thought that this was a really unique and girly way to pull off the canvas combat boots. I also like that the skirt is sort of like running shorts material, so it's super comfortable. I've seen a lot of shirts like this one and I normally wouldn't have thought it would be something I would pick up. But it was on sale and as a shopping addict I couldn't resist at least trying it on. As soon as I put it on I started thinking of all the ways I could style it, so off to the cash register I went.
I hope you all enjoy this post! Talk to you soon!

new scarf thingy in action

shirt: pac sun
shorts: delia's
vest: forever 21
shoes: vans website
scarf: DIY

Oh man, so much angst! I didn't mean to be making such an angry face! Well this is what my DIY scarf from my last post looks like executed in a full outfit, what do you think?
The vest is one of those things that I've had for a while that I never really wore. But I knew that I would find inspiration to wear this one day and that's why I never got rid of it! It's kind of a velvety material so its not the best option for summer, but it was just fine today because I didn't spend much time outside.
Also, I don't care what anybody says; I love my vans! I've had these for like 6 years and they are so comfortable and durable. I think they add a certain attitude to the look. I also tried teasing my hair a bit so it would gain some volume, but it doesn't appear to have worked! That's all for now!

Have a wonderful day!

like a rolling stone

shirt: forever 21
shorts: old navy
shoes: charlotte russe
sunglasses: pac sun

"You put your shirt on backwards, look where the buttons are!"
"I don't like this picture. You're posing like a dork."
"Those shoes look dumb with that outfit."
  "What's on  your head!?"
Boyfriends say the darndest things. But thanks for getting me ice cream today and for visiting my blog regularly, Tony!
